Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: Zāfir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Bashīr Abū Ismāʿīl, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, who said, “I knew people who used to study scrupulous piety, whereas today they study speculative theology.”
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زَافِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ بَشِيرٍ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ قَالَ: «أَدْرَكْتُ النَّاسَ، وَهُمْ يَتَعَلَّمُونَ الْوَرَعَ، وَهُمُ الْيَوْمَ، يَتَعَلَّمُونَ الْكَلَامَ»
