Al-Qāsim ibn Hāshim narrated to me, saying: Isḥāq ibn ʿAbbād narrated to me, saying: Abū Ismāʿīl al-Muʾaddib narrated to us:
A man once came to al-ʿUmari and said, “Admonish me.” Al-ʿUmari picked up a small pebble from the ground and said, “If a portion of warʿ (scrupulous piety) no heavier than this pebble were to enter your heart, it would be better for you than the prayer of everyone on earth.” The man asked, “Give me more.” He replied, “However you wish Allah to be with you tomorrow, be with Him today.”
