182 – ʿAwn ibn Ibrāhīm al-Shāmī related to me, saying: Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī told me: I heard Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Banājī say:
“A servant will be brought forth on the Day of Resurrection and will be enveloped in light. He will then be handed his ledger; as he reads, he finds only his minor sins and sees none of the major ones he remembers. An angel is summoned and given a sealed scroll, and it is said to him, ‘Take this servant of Mine to Paradise. When you reach the last bridge, hand him this scroll and say: Your Lord says to you, “My beloved, nothing kept Me from making you face these sins except modesty before you and reverence for you, and I have forgiven them for you.”’
When they arrive at the final bridge, the angel gives him the scroll. The man breaks the seal, reads it, looks at its contents, and says to the angel, ‘I recognize these.’ The angel replies, ‘I have no knowledge of what it contains; I was only given a sealed scroll. And your Lord says to you, “My beloved, nothing prevented Me from confronting you with them except to magnify and honor you…’"
