Al-Wara'Ibn Abi al-Dunya
  1. Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; he said: Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqiq narrated to us; he said: ‘Abd Allah narrated to us:

A servant wrote to Hassan ibn Abi Sinan from Ahwaz, telling him, “The sugar-cane has been hit by blight; buy sugar while you still can.” So he purchased some sugar from a man, and only a short time passed before the purchase brought a profit of thirty thousand. He went to the seller and said, “Good sir, my servant had written to me and I did not inform you; please release me from the sale I made with you.” The man replied, “Now you have informed me, and I waive it for you.”

He went back home, but his heart could not rest. He returned and said, “Good sir, I did not enter into this matter in the proper way, and I would like this sale to be rescinded.” He persisted until the man finally took the goods back.
