154 – Al-Qāsim ibn Hāshim reported: Abū Yūsuf al-Jīzī told me; al-Muʾammal ibn Ismāʿīl told us: “Wuhayb ibn al-Ward would not pray under the awnings in the Sacred Mosque; rather, in both scorching heat and biting cold he stood for prayer in the open courtyard. He owned a small bucket from which he drew water from Zamzam. He used to say, ‘If I had two wings, I would fly’—meaning, ‘I would not need to enter through the mosque gates.’ He never shuffled along on his heels as we do; his stride outpaced even the horses.”
