150 – Yahya ibn Aktham narrated to me; he said: ʿAbd al-Aʿla ibn Mus-hir informed us; he said: Saʿid ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-Tanukhi informed us:
“John son of Zechariah would never eat anything obtained from other people, fearing that some wrong might have crept into it. He lived on the vegetation of the earth and wore garments made from the skins of birds. When the moment of his death arrived, Allah said to the Angel of Death: ‘Go to that soul dwelling in a body that has never committed a sin, nor even thought of one, and take it.’”
١٥٠ - حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَكْثَمَ قَالَ: نَبَّأَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ التَّنُوخِيُّ قَالَ: " كَانَ يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا لَا يَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا مِمَّا فِي النَّاسِ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَكُونَ دَخَلَهُ ظُلْمٌ. إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ نَبَاتِ الْأَرْضِ وَيَلْبَسُ مِنْ مُسُوكِ الطَّيْرِ، وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷿ لِمَلَكٍ الْمَوْتِ: اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الرُّوحِ الَّتِي فِي ذَلِكَ الْجَسَدِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَطِيئَةً، وَلَمْ يَهِمَّ بِهَا فَاقْبِضْهُ "
