128 – Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir al-Hizami told us: ‘Abd Allah ibn Wahb related to us, from Ibn Lahi‘ah, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Hubayrah, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Zurayr al-Ghafiqi, who said:

We visited ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib on the Day of Sacrifice. He set before us a dish of khazirah (meat broth thickened with flour). We said, “Commander of the Believers, why not offer us some of that duck and goose, when good food is plentiful?”

He replied, “Ibn Zurayr, I heard the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—say: ‘It is not permissible for the caliph to have more than two bowls: one from which he and his household eat, and another with which he feeds…’”
