121 – Sulaymān ibn Manṣūr al-Khuzaʿī told me: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Umawī narrated to us, saying, “I shared the journey to Mecca with Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh, and he was among the most scrupulously pious people I have ever met. Someone presented him with Barni dates as a gift. Later he was informed, ‘These dates are from the orchard of Khālid ibn Salamah al-Makhzūmī, which has been placed under seizure.’ He immediately went to Khālid ibn Salamah, sought his permission to make use of them, then calculated the market value of the dates and gave that amount in charity.”
