115 – Saʿdawayh and ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us, from al-Fuḍayl ibn Marzūq, from ʿAdī ibn Thābit, from Abū Ḥāzim, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah is pure and accepts only what is pure. Indeed, Allah has commanded the believers with the same command He gave to the messengers, for He said: ‘O Messengers, eat of the wholesome things and act righteously’ (Q 23:51), and He said: ‘O you who believe, eat of the wholesome things We have provided for you’ (Q 2:172).”
He then described a servant who embarks on a long journey, disheveled and dust-covered, raising his hands toward heaven, crying, “My Lord! My Lord!”—while his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he has been nourished on the unlawful. How, then, can his supplication be answered?
