Al-Wara'Ibn Abi al-Dunya

106 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ibn Bisṭām related to me and said, “I asked a neighbor of Ḍaygham, ‘Have you ever heard Abū Mālik quote any poetry?’ He answered, ‘I never heard him recite poetry except for a single line.’ I said, ‘What is it?’ He replied:

[al-Baḥr al-Kāmil]
“The God-wary, pious man may guard his tongue—
Fearing to speak, yet he is truly eloquent.”
