60 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad informed me; Yazid narrated to me; Abu al-Walid al-ʿAbbas ibn al-Muʾammal, the Sufi, narrated to me: He had once commanded Harun to do what is right, so Harun imprisoned him for a long time. Abu al-Walid said, “A visitor came to me in my sleep and said, ‘How much rejoicing awaits the sorrowful tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection—a joy that will equal the entire length of his grief in the abode of this world!’ I awoke in alarm, and before long Allah granted relief and released me from that imprisonment. Our companions and family were elated.
“Then I saw in a dream as though that same visitor had come to me and said, ‘Give glad tidings to the mournful of lasting joy tomorrow before their Sovereign.’ By Allah, I realized that sorrow is only for the sake of the good of the Hereafter, not for this world.”
Yazid added, “Abu al-Walid spent his whole life with tear-filled eyes—either accompanying a funeral, visiting a sick person, or frequenting the graveyard—and he was deeply sorrowful.”
