44 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Sufyan al-Ruʾāsi related to me; Ibn ʿUyaynah transmitted from ʿUmar ibn Dharr, who said:
A servant of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz said to him when he returned from Sulaymān’s funeral, “Why do I see you so distressed?” ʿUmar replied, “It is only natural to grieve over what I now shoulder. There is not a single member of Muhammad’s community, in East or West, but that I desire to deliver his right to him—without his having to write to me about it and without him having to ask me for it.”
