33 – Abu Muhammad ʿAli ibn al-Hasan narrated to me from Shujaʿ ibn al-Walid. He said: Abu Sumayr related to us, from Malik ibn Dinar, who said:
“Everything has its means of fertilization, and this sorrow is the seedbed of righteous deeds. Whoever truly adheres to this path will inevitably feel sorrow. By Allah, sorrow for the Hereafter and joy in this world have never coexisted in a servant’s heart; one of them is sure to expel the other.”
