19 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to me, saying: Jaʿfar ibn Jasar ibn Farqad told me; he said: Hammad ibn Waqid informed me; he said: I heard Abū ʿUbaydah al-Khawwās say, “Sorrow is the polish of hearts; through it the seats of contemplation are softened.” Then he wept.
١٩ - حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ جَسْرِ بْنِ فَرْقَدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي حَمَّادُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ الْخَوَّاصَ يَقُولُ: «الْحُزْنُ جِلَاءُ الْقُلُوبِ، بِهِ تَسْتَلِينُ مَوَاضِعُ الْفِكْرَةِ، ثُمَّ بَكَى»
