160 – Abu al-Hasan ‘Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Harun narrated to me; he said: ‘Abd al-Wahhab ibn al-Dahhak narrated to us; he said: I heard Mu‘awiyah ibn Hafs al-Shuʿaythi say, “We entered upon Dawud al-Ta’i while he was weeping and repeating, ‘Is there no grieving soul who will comfort another who grieves?’” Mu‘awiyah then remarked, “Spoken by Dawud this was a fine utterance, but had it come from anyone else it would have been unbecoming.”
