143 — ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: My father related to me, from Abū al-Mundhir al-Kūfī, that ʿUmar would meet Mutammim and ask him to recite the elegy he had composed for his brother (metre: al-ṭawīl):
“By my life, our span of days spares none from destruction!”
Whenever Mutammim recited it, ʿUmar would weep.
