142 — ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd related to me, from Muhammad ibn ʿUmar. ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar al-Makhramī told me, from Ibn Abi ʿAwn, who said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Mājishūn also informed me that ʿUmar once asked Mutammim, “What is the greatest sorrow you have suffered for your brother?” He replied, “This eye of mine lost its sight”—and he pointed to it—“and the sound eye wept with it. I wept so much that the blind eye itself came to its aid and gushed with tears.” ʿUmar said, “That is truly profound grief.”
