Al-Hamm wa-l-HuznIbn Abi al-Dunya

12 – Abu Bakr al-Sayrafi related to me; he said: I heard my father recount that Ibn al-Sammak once heard a man cry out, “Wā ḥuznāh!” (Oh, what grief!). Ibn al-Sammak said to him, “Say, ‘Wā ḥuznāh ʿalā al-ḥuzn—grief upon grief—lest I not be counted among its people. And have you ever seen anyone truly grief-stricken?’”
