Our righteous shaykh Abū al-Fatḥ Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Bāqī ibn Aḥmad ibn Salmān—may Allah have mercy on him—related to us, the text being read to him while I listened, on Wednesday, the nineteenth of Jumādā al-Ākhirah, 563 AH. It was said to him, “Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿĀṣim ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī has informed you.” He replied, “Yes. Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bishrān al-Muʿaddil narrated to us in a public reading, and he confirmed it. He said: Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn Ṣafwān al-Bardhaʿī narrated to us in Muḥarram of the year 340 AH. He said: Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Sufyān al-Qurashī narrated to us; he said:
1 – Sufyān ibn Wakīʿ ibn al-Jarāḥ ibn Malīḥ al-Rawāsī narrated to us; he said: Jumayʿ ibn ʿAmm al-ʿIjlī narrated to us; he said: A man from Banū Tamīm, known by the kunyah Abū ʿAbd Allāh, narrated to me, from a son of Abū Hālah al-Tamīmī, from al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him), from his maternal uncle Hind ibn Abī Hālah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was incessantly burdened by grief, ever absorbed in contemplation; he found no respite, was given to long silences, and would not speak unless there was a need.”
