- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. Mufaḍḍal al-Baṣrī related to me and said: “It was asked of ʿUbayd Allah ibn Shumayṭ, ‘Did your father use to weep?’ He replied, ‘His deeds were the ones that wept.’”
١٢٤ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي مُفَضَّلُ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ: قِيلَ لِعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شُمَيْطٍ: كَانَ أَبُوكَ يَبْكِي؟ قَالَ: «عَمَلُهُ يَبْكِي»
