106 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; he said that al-Musharraf ibn Abān narrated to me; he said that Abū Bakr al-Rāzī narrated to me:
Fath al-Mawṣilī once went out on the day of ʿĪd. When he came back he noticed the cooking smoke drifting to his right and left. He raised his head toward the sky and said, “My God, others seek nearness to You with their sacrificial offerings, but I have drawn near to You with my sorrow, O Beloved of my heart.” He then fell unconscious. When he lifted his head again he said, “My God, how long must I keep roaming the alleyways of this world weighed down with grief?”
