79 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Ishaq ibn Musa al-Ansari wrote to me, reporting that ʿAbbad ibn Kulayb had related to them:
“I was in ʿAbadan when I saw a young man from Quraysh wearing a woolen cloak, with several men gathered around him. I said to myself, ‘That young man is wearing wool!’ Then I thought, ‘I have just backbitten him.’ I drew nearer and heard him saying, ‘Allah has servants who find repose in their sorrows.’
I said, ‘May Allah have mercy on you—you are wearing wool!’ He answered, ‘As for me, I am merely a slave; when I am emancipated I will choose what to wear.’
I later mentioned this to Sharik, who said, ‘I do not object to someone like that wearing wool; words such as his could only have come from a hidden treasure.’”
