72 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. He said: Muhammad also informed me, from Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Sulayman, who said:
“Shiʿwanah had sunk so deeply into sorrow that she gave up the prayer and all devotional acts. While she slept, someone came to her and said:
[Basit metre]
Let your eyelids spill their tears—were you not already burdened with grief?
For wailing can indeed soothe the sorrowing.
Take heart, rise, and fast unceasingly through the days,
For perseverance is the hallmark of the obedient.
At daybreak she began to hum and weep, her anguish eased, and she resumed her steadfast devotion and good works.”
