665 – Muhammad b. ʿAbbād told us; Abu Usamah told us; from Nāfiʿ b. ʿUmar al-Jumahī, who said: ʿAmr b. Dīnār was asked about writing the following supplication: “O Allah, the earth is Yours, the sky is Yours, and whatever lies between them is Yours. So make the whole earth for So-and-so narrower than the hide of a lamb until he restores the property to its rightful owners and You enable them to take hold of it.” ʿAmr saw no harm in writing this text and placing it beneath the person’s head, but he disliked the phrase “the hide of a lamb.”
