658 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad al-Saʿdī narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Muḥammad narrated; Yūnus ibn Khabbāb narrated, who said:
“I consulted Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī about hanging an ʿādhah (a written amulet). He replied, ‘Yes—provided it is taken from the Book of Allah or from words of the Messenger of Allah—and he instructed me to seek healing through it as far as I was able.’
He then wrote for me a prescription for quartan fever:
‘O fire, be coolness and safety’ (Q 21:69) up to His statement, Exalted is He, ‘…the losers’ (Q 21:70).
‘O Allah, Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Isrāfīl, heal the bearer of this script.’
