604 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Jarir narrated to us; Yahya ibn Salih al-ʿAbdi narrated to us. He said:
“I came to al-Hasan while I was still a lad and sat some distance from the study circle. He said to me, ‘My son, come closer—why are you sitting so far away?’ I replied, ‘Abu Saʿid, the spot I have chosen is quite comfortable.’ He said, ‘Do not do that; whenever you come, sit right next to me.’ Thereafter, whenever I visited him, he would seat me at his side, pass his hand over my head, and dictate hadith to me.”
