589 – It was related to me from Dāwūd ibn Rushayd. ‘Iyāḍ ibn Muḥammad al-Raqqī narrated:
I asked ‘Abd Allāh ibn Yazīd, “Did you ever see Wāthilah ibn al-Asqa‘?”
He replied, “Yes. I was present at the circumcision of his son when he prepared food and invited the people. He was wrapped in a thick coarse waist-cloth, and beside him were two ṣurāḥiyyahs (large jugs) containing ṭilāʾ (boiled grape syrup) reduced to one-third. He would serve it to the guests and say, ‘Drink—may Allah bless you.’”
