572 – Thawbān narrated to us; al-Walīd al-Sakūnī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb narrated to me, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Salmān, from Ibn al-Hād:
The wife of Ibn Rawāḥah caught him with one of his slave girls and cried out, “On my very own bed as well?” He sprang up and denied it, whereupon she said, “Recite a verse from the Quran, for I know you never recite while you are in major ritual impurity.” So he recited:

[al-Baḥr al-Wāfir]
“I testify that Allah’s promise is true,
That Hellfire is the home of the unbelievers;
The Throne floats above the waters,
And above the Throne is the Lord of all worlds;
It is borne aloft by stalwart angels—
The angels of God, marked and distinguished.”
