567 – Muʿammal ibn Hishām related to us; Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm related to us; from Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar; from Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said:

ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

“Sawdah bint Zamʿah came to visit me while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting between us. I had prepared some ḥarīrah (a thick soup), so I brought it in and said, ‘Eat.’ She answered, ‘I am not going to taste it.’ I said, ‘By Allah, you will eat some of it, or I will smear it on your face.’ She again replied, ‘I am not going to taste it.’ So I took a little and wiped it over her face. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to laugh as he sat between us, and he wiped some of it over my face. Still laughing, he kept shielding her from me, giving her the chance to settle the score. She then took some of it and smeared it on my face, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed.”
