563 – ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Thābit al-Bunānī, from Abū al-Mutawakkil al-Nājī:
Umm Salamah once brought the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a serving dish filled with food on a day that he was in the house of ʿĀʾishah. ʿĀʾishah entered, wrapped in a cloak and carrying a stone. She struck the dish with it, splitting it into two pieces. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered the two fragments together with the food in his own hand and said, “Eat; your mother has been overcome by jealousy. Eat; your mother has been overcome by jealousy.”
When he noticed ʿĀʾishah’s own food, she brought it in her dish and they ate. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then took her dish and sent it to Umm Salamah, and he sent Umm Salamah’s dish to ʿĀʾishah.
