561 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Musa—and Aswad ibn ʿAmir as well—narrated to us, from Israʾil, from Abu Ishaq, from al-ʿAyzar ibn Hurayth, who said:
Abu Bakr entered and found ʿAʾishah speaking to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a raised voice. He exclaimed, “Daughter of Umm Ruman! Do I see you raising your voice at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” and he moved toward her (intending to chastise her). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stepped between him and her, and Abu Bakr left.
The Prophet ﷺ then said to her, “Did you notice how I interposed myself between him and you so that he would not lay a hand on you?”
The next day Abu Bakr came to them early, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was laughing with ʿAʾishah. Abu Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah, let me share in your reconciliation just as I shared in your quarrel.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, “We have already done so.”
