Al-Nafaqa 'ala al-'IyalIbn Abi al-Dunya

547 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; Jarir narrated to us; from ʿAtaʾ ibn al-Saʾib, who said:

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Messenger of Allah, how should a menstruating woman bathe once she is pure?” After the Prophet ﷺ had described to her how to perform the ritual bath, he added, “Observe where the blood was and then pass over that spot some musk or other perfume.”

She said, “Messenger of Allah, but where—exactly where—is the blood?” Out of his great modesty ﷺ he turned his face away. She then said, “I am not embarrassed; he is only my father and our father, so I feel no shame in asking him.”
