523 – Abu Khaythamah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Tufawi narrated to us, from Layth, from ʿAtaʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said:
A woman asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), “What is the husband’s right over his wife?” He replied, “She must not refuse herself to him, even if she is seated on the saddle of a camel.”
She asked, “And what is the husband’s right over his wife?” He said, “She must not fast a voluntary day without his permission; if she does, she incurs sin and it will not be accepted from her.” ⦗716⦘
She asked, “And what is the husband’s right over his wife?” He answered, “She must not give anything from his house except with his permission; if she does, he receives the reward while she bears the sin.”
She asked, “And what is the husband’s right over his wife?” He said, “She must not leave her house except with his permission; if she does, the angels of mercy and the angels of wrath will curse her until she repents and returns.”
She declared, “By Allah, no man will ever have authority over me again.”
