509 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; Jarir narrated to us; from Layth; from Ismaʿil, who said: A woman came to Muʿadh and said, “You are truly the envoy of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. What is a wife’s right over her husband?” He replied, “Her right upon him is that he must not strike her face or insult her. Her right upon him is that he feed her from whatever he himself eats and clothe her from whatever he himself wears. And her right upon him is that he not forsake her except while she remains in her own house.”
