499 – Al-Khalīl ibn ʿAmr related to us; Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah related to us; Muḥammad ibn Ḥassān al-Kūfī related to us, from al-Ḥakam, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best of men is the one who is protective of his family while remaining chaste toward others, and the best of women is the one who welcomes her husband yet stays chaste toward others. Grant them their due in intimacy—that is, marital intercourse—and do not rush them, for they have a need just as you have a need. Modesty consists of ten parts: nine are possessed by women and one by men; were it not for that, women would throw themselves beneath their males as livestock do beneath theirs.”
