48 – Ismāʿīl ibn Asad narrated to us; Shabābah ibn Sawwār narrated to us; from al-Mughīrah ibn Muslim; from Abū al-Zubayr; from Jābir, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the ʿaqīqah (newborn sacrifice) for al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn with one ram each.

Jābir said: In the ʿaqīqah the animal is cut into joints, boiled with water and salt, then sent to the neighbors, and it is announced, “This is the ʿaqīqah of so-and-so.”

Abū al-Zubayr added: I asked Jābir, “Should we put vinegar in it?” He replied, “Yes; that makes it even better.”
