458 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn related to us; al-ʿImṣ ibn al-Faḍl al-Bajali related to us; Misʿar related:
Ibn Hubayrah sent ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allah ten thousand dirhams. ʿAwn sent the money back. Ibn Hubayrah returned it once more and grew angry, declaring, “If he will not accept it, I swear I shall do this and that!”
ʿAwn’s companions said to him, “Take it and buy a trade with it—something that will secure you and your children after you, a store of wealth.”
He asked, “Is that truly your opinion?” They replied, “Yes.” So he accepted the money, gave it all away in charity, and said, “I have decided to make this a bond between me and Allah Most High and a treasure for my children after me.”
