Al-Ḥakam ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated, from Ḥassān ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Iyās ibn Muʿāwiya, from ʿUmar, who said: “The most arduous trial is having many dependents but little means.”
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: «جَهْدُ الْبَلَاءِ كَثْرَةُ الْعِيَالِ وَقِلَّةُ الشَّيْءِ»
