442 – ʿUthmān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; Abu Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī narrated to us; Abū Ḥurrah narrated, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
The companions of Ibn Masʿūd were with him when two of his young sons—bright as two gold dinars—walked past. Someone remarked, “Abu ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, why don’t you kiss them or draw them close?” He replied, “I would rather have already shaken the dust of their graves from my hands than see the white shell of this swallow’s egg crack.”
