412 – My father related to me; Muhammad ibn Yazīd al-Wāsiṭī narrated to us; al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab narrated to us: It has reached me that ʿAlī said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once asked me, “What is best for women?” I did not know how to answer. I later mentioned the question to Fāṭimah, and she said, “Why did you not tell him: ‘The best state for women is that they neither see men nor are seen by them’?” I conveyed Fāṭimah’s reply to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “She is a part of me.”
