- Al-ʿAbbās ibn Hishām ibn Muḥammad related to me, from his father, who said: A man of the tribe of Ṭayy had a shirt cut for himself; a piece was left over—known as the jabība—so he fashioned it into a garment for his small son and recited:
I snipped the jabība from my shirt for him
and favored the younger over the elder;
All of my children, in the nearness they enjoy with me,
are equal, had I but the means to give in plenty.
