39. Abu Khaythama narrated to us; Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us; Abu Khaythama narrated to us; Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us, from Jabir, who said:

The wife of Bashir said, “Grant my son a slave and have the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—bear witness for me.” So he went to the Messenger of Allah and said, “The daughter of so-and-so has asked me to give her son a slave, and she said, ‘Have the Messenger of Allah bear witness for me.’” He asked, “For him alone?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet then said, “Have you given every one of your children the same as you have given him?” He answered, “No.” He said, “This is not acceptable, and I testify only to what is right.”
