348 – I was informed by Mansur ibn Abi Muzahim, from Marwan ibn Abi Shujaʿ, who said: Ibrahim ibn Abi ʿAblah used to tutor the children of al-Walid ibn ʿAbd al-Malik. One day al-Walid entered and found him having a young maidservant ride on a boy’s back while he was beating her. Al-Walid said, “Stop, Ibrahim! Maidservants are not to be struck on their backsides; if you must discipline them, then use the foot or the palm.”
