346 – I was informed by Harun ibn Abd Allah, through Damrah ibn Rabiʿah, from Ali ibn Abi Jumlah, who said: A dispute broke out between Sulayman ibn Saʿd and some members of Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik’s entourage concerning Salim and al-Rabiʿ. Salim said to him, “It is as though you think the Commander of the Faithful could not find a replacement for you.” He replied, “Someone of my calibre he will not find; but for a donkey like you, he can always find another.”
