334 – My father narrated to me; Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad al-Thaqafī narrated to us, from ʿAnbasah ibn ʿAmmār, who said:
I was still a lad who had not yet come of age when my father took me to Ibn ʿUmar, asking him to make me refrain from excessive chatter. (Ibn ʿUmar had previously cohabited with the boy’s mother.) Ibn ʿUmar said to my father: “Give your son a sound upbringing, for you will be questioned about his manners and education, while he will be questioned about showing dutifulness to you.”
