2 – Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ayyub related to us; Ibrahim ibn Saʿd related to us; from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, through their freedwoman, from Abu Ishaq al-Hamdani, from Wahb ibn Jabir, who said:
“I reached Jerusalem with two or three nights of Shaʿban remaining, and I was pleased at the thought of fasting Ramadan there. I found ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs and sat with him. While I was with him one day, his steward arrived, and he (ʿAbd Allah) asked, ‘What has brought you?’ ⦗133⦘ He replied, ‘I have come for a personal need.’ He (ʿAbd Allah) asked, ‘Did you leave any provision for our household?’ He answered, ‘I looked and saw that we had food.’ He (ʿAbd Allah) then said, ‘By Allah, you will return to them before taking care of your need, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “It is enough of a sin for a person that he neglects those whose provision lies upon him.”’
