269 – Yahya ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to me, 8304, that al-Zubayr ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib seated al-ʿAbbas in his lap and began to say:
My son al-ʿAbbās is chaste and open-handed;
To any blemish that might be voiced, he is stone-deaf.
He aspires to glory and fulfils every pledge,
Slaughtering the al-kawmāʾ (the high-humped camel) on a day of plenty.
How noble are the roots you spring from—on your mother’s side and your father’s!
