266 – My father, Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Sufyān, narrated to me from some of his elders; I was also told the same report through Qirān ibn Tammām al-Wālibī, from Mujālid, from al-Shaʿbī, who said:

“Quraysh loved ʿUthmān so deeply that a woman would rock her little boy and sing:
‘I love you—by the All-Merciful—
with the very love that Quraysh bears for ʿUthmān.’”
