249 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Azdi narrated to us; al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us. He said: I heard Qurrah ibn Khalid relate from Harun ibn Riʾab. Sinan ibn Salamah narrated to us in Bahrain, saying:

“I was with a group of boys in Medina picking up fallen dates when we caught sight of ʿUmar. The boys scattered, but I remained and said, ‘O Commander of the Believers, it is only what the wind has cast down.’ He said, ‘Show me so that I may look.’ When I showed him, he said, ‘Go on your way.’ I said, ‘O Commander of the Believers, keep these boys in line, for if you slip away they will snatch what I have.’ So he walked with me until I reached a place of safety.”
