242 – Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUthmān ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥāṭib. My father, ʿUthmān ibn Ibrāhīm, related to me; he said that Ibn Ḥāṭib told him, on the authority of his mother, Umm Jamīl bint al-Mujallil, who said:

“I was bringing you back from the land of Abyssinia. When we were only a night or two away from Medina, I prepared a stew for you, but the firewood ran out, so I went out to gather more. While I was away, you reached for the pot and it tipped over onto your forearm. When we arrived in Medina, I brought you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, this is Muḥammad ibn Ḥāṭib—he is the first child ever named after you.’ He passed his hand over your head, invoked blessing upon you, then spat ⦗410⦘ on you and kept spitting lightly on your hand while saying:

‘Remove the illness, Lord of mankind. Grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing—a healing that leaves behind no ailment.’

She concluded, ‘I did not leave his presence with you until your hand was completely healed.’
